There has been some progress. Having sent the first draft to Katie, I then started to edit it…
As a consequence, I now have text that is much more concise, a fair bit more accurate and far less wasteful with words. I’m very happy with the way it came out of my little editing whirlwind.
I was almost happy enough to share a little taster, but I’ve changed my mind there. Instead, I’ll share a couple of little poems.
I find it really, really hard to write about Luke. But its a bit easier to write for him… He loves hearing rhymes and the way words work with (and against) each other, so limericks are wonderful for the job of making him smile! So we play a little game – I ask him what he wants to be in the poem, and then I try and make one up to make him laugh. It has the two wonderful bonuses of making him laugh and giving me some practice with rhyming!
These are two of the latest:
There was a young wizard called Luke,
Who tried to turn all his friends into newts.
There was a big flash,
a squelch, bang and flash,
and he was slimed from his hair to his boots.
One day, when floating in space,
I found a planet made entirely of lace.
I went down for a peep,
then fell asleep,
and woke up with funny marks on my face.
So anyway – that’s where I’ve got to. Second draft finished, and I’m now starting to fiddle with other ideas and bits and pieces before I look back at the story. Its always good (but rarely very easy) to give it a while and then come back with fresh eyes on a draft, so I’m happy to wander off into other things and get some research on the go.
